Launch of mentoring for women in the forestry and timber industry

We launched the 2024 mentoring programme with 19 committed mentoring pairs. The participating mentors and mentees were able to get to know each other. The workshop on "Gender-reflective mentoring" provided initial ideas for the framework of the collaboration over the next 12 months.

At the beginning of the workshop, the participating mentors and mentees were welcomed by:

Doris Damyanovic, Vice-Rector for Teaching, Continuing Education and Students at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna and project manager

Maria Patek, former Federal Minister for Sustainability and Tourism and mentor in the project

Dagmar Karisch-Gierer, board member of the Forest Women's Association, FAST Pichl Forestry Training Centre, and mentor in the project

Peter Mayer, Head of the Federal Research Centre for Forests (BFW) and

Benjamin Stadler, consultant at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management (BML, funding organisation)

The subsequent workshop on "Gender-reflective mentoring in forestry" was led by Heidi Gaube and Eva Janusch from NOWA in Graz. As part of a quiz, the participants learnt about figures and data on women in the forestry industry. The importance of gender equality in the forestry industry was a central topic, as were the expectations of the mentoring relationship. This led to discussions on the topic of equality.

The participating mentors and mentees were also able to find out who they would be working with in the mentoring relationship over the next 12 months.

We would like to thank you very much for the intensive exchange and especially thank all mentors and mentees for participating in the mentoring programme! We appreciate your commitment and are very much looking forward to future exchanges
