What is an equivalence (list) and where can I find it?

If a course is no longer offered but an equivalent course has been defined in the equivalence list, the following applies:

if one of these two courses is completed, the other is automatically considered to have been completed as well. For expiring study plans, some courses, including compulsory courses, will no longer be offered from winter semester 2025 onwards. In order to still be able to complete these, the new, equivalent course must be taken.

If a course has already been completed in the old curriculum and an active change to a new study plan has taken place, the new, equivalent course will be considered completed as of October 1, 2025.

Please note that the course number may change if the responsible organizational unit changes—however, this only affects the first 4 letters; the number combination behind them remains the same and can be used for searching in BOKUonline.

Each study plan has its own list of equivalent courses, known as the equivalence list. You can find this in BOKUonline after logging in to “My Studies” under “My Documents”:

Frequently asked questions about the expiring curriculum

In “My Studies,” no courses are displayed under the compulsory/elective subject node. How can I register?

There are two possible reasons for this:

1.) The course has not yet been approved for the winter semester.

Solution: Wait a few days until the start of the academic year on October 1, 2025, when the course will appear.

2.) The course will no longer be offered from winter semester 2025 onwards.

Solution: Check whether the desired course appears in the equivalence list. In most cases, there is an equivalent course that you can take instead.

I can usually only register for winter semester courses via “free registration,” even though they are compulsory courses for my degree program.

That's no problem, just register using the “free registration” option. Incomplete assignments will be corrected later—at the latest upon completion of your studies.

At the moment, it is not possible to register for some courses in the winter semester 2025/26.

Unfortunately, the approval process has also been delayed due to the very complex transition to the new curriculum versions. By the start of the academic year on October 1, 2025, all courses should be listed and registration should be possible.

Can I switch to the modular study plan version? And if so, until when?

Yes, you can also actively switch to the new version of the curriculum.

To do so, please

be sure to write from your BOKU email address: https://students.boku.ac.at,

stating your matriculation number and your current degree program,

to: studienservices(at)boku.ac.at

You will receive a transfer declaration, which you can submit either by email or in person at the counter within the admission period (no later than October 31 for the winter semester or March 31 for the summer semester). To do so, you will need to make an appointment with “Evidenz” (https://short.boku.ac.at/qk6m32 ). You must bring your valid BOKUcard or official photo ID with you.
Please note that the transfer is irrevocable.

Are there still exam dates available for courses in the 2025 summer semester?

As stated in the University Act, exam dates will still be offered for the 2025 summer semester, even if the course will no longer be held from the 2025 winter semester onwards. If it is not possible to complete the courses of the phased-out degree program, the new equivalent courses must be completed according to the equivalence list.
