Admission into Master programmes with international educational background
Admission to Master's programmes is conditional upon the successful completion of a relevant Bachelor's programme or an equivalent degree programme at a recognized Austrian or foreign post-secondary institution.
A different but related field of studies at an equivalent level of higher education may require additional courses, which must be completed by the end of the second semester of the Master's programme.
Admission at BOKU University allows for a maximum of 30 ECTS of additional courses.
Please note: Supplementary requirement courses may be offered in German, even though the master's programme does not require German proficiency. Please contact the responsible course instructor to obtain English course materials. The exam can also be taken in English, kindly reach out to the course instructor for arrangements. In this case, the course content must be aquired through self-study.
Please include the following original documents (or certified copies) with your application:
- Completed application form
- Evidence of previous studies (bachelor´s degree, diploma)
- Transcript of records stating subjects, marks, ECTS
- Contents of teaching* (e.g. module handbook) as PDF or link
- CV
- Evidence of adequate proficiency in English (for English-taught Master´s programmes)**
- Evidence of adequate proficiency in German A2 or C1 (for German-taught Master´s programmes)
Certified copies can only be accepted if they include either the original legalisation confirmation from the Austrian Embassy or an Apostille.
Additional copies of the required documents need to be submitted.
*As part of the review of the submitted documents, the university reserves the right to request additional documents or evidence if deemed necessary to verify the admission requirements. The assessment will be conducted in accordance with the principles of free evaluation of evidence pursuant to Sections 45 and 46 of the General Administrative Procedure Act (AVG).

For applications to Master´s programmes from EU/EEA citizens, submitted after September 30th for the winter semester or February 28th for the summer semester, admission to the respective semester cannot be guaranteed.

*All documents to be considered for admission must be included with the application. The subsequent submission of additional achievements or courses will not be taken into account. It is in the applicant´s interest to submit a module handbook (or officia course descriptions) to potentially reduce the number of prescribed courses.
