Global Green Plate Forum

Global Green Plate Forum – Future Food for Thought is a teaching project at BOKU. It is part of the course ‘Scientific Communication and Impacts’ in the Master's programme ‘Climate Change and Societal Transformation’. The highlight is a public forum with cooking and tasting at TÜWI in Vienna. The aim is to make sustainable agriculture and nutrition understandable, share knowledge and discuss solutions together.

Students plan and run the entire forum. They work in teams, invite guests, design posters and short presentations, moderate discussions and document the results. Vegetarian dishes from different countries, such as Brazil, Nigeria, France, Ethiopia and Rwanda, are cooked for the food tasting. Guests from science, administration, politics, embassies and NGOs provide feedback. This creates an open dialogue on equal terms.

The project is international. BOKU (Vienna), CZU (Prague) and SLU (Sweden) are involved in the Euroleague for Life Sciences network. Together, students develop case studies on sustainable value chains. They meet online for peer learning and work together on site in Vienna. The project promotes teamwork, interculturalism and clear scientific communication. The forum has been held annually since 2023 and was awarded the BOKU Sustainability Award 2023. Results are also shared at ELLS events.
