We are pleased to announce that Dr. Ranjan Kumar Dahal, a globally recognized expert in geohazards and geotechnical engineering, will be joining us as a guest professor from the end of April 28th to the May 2nd 2025.

 

With over 28 years of experience in researching and managing earthquakes, landslides, and debris flows, Dr. Dahal is a leading figure in geohazard studies. Currently serving as an Associate Professor at the Central Department of Geology at Tribhuvan University, Dr. Dahal has published over 120 scientific papers and authored four books. He is also an Associate Editor for the Springer Open Journal of GeoenvironmentalDisasters. As a UNESCO Chair Visiting Professor and a recognized leader in the field, Dr. Dahalhas contributed to geohazard risk assessment in numerous countries, including Japan, Australia, China, and India.

Dr. Dahal collaborates with global organizations such as the World Bank, ADB, JICA, and the International Consortium on Geodisaster Reduction (ICGdR) to develop sustainable disaster mitigation strategies. His innovative approaches to rockfall and landslide hazard mitigation in Nepal have made a significant impact on disaster resilience.

During his time in Course LV 872015 Engineering geology and natural hazards of the Himalaya (in Eng.), Dr. Dahal will share his expertise in geohazards, disaster risk management, and geotechnical safety with the students. It promises to be an exciting and enriching experience, providing a unique opportunity to learn from one of the leading experts in this field.
