- Introduction (GIS in riverscape planning, GIS databases in Austria/EU, data aquisition, eg.)
- GIS for environmental monitoring in riverscapes (Concepts/tasks in monitoring, data availability, shortcomings, examples, GIS instruments and tools)
- GIS application in stream protection and river restoration (Concepts/tasks, data availability, shortcomings, examples, GIS tools)
- Rivers as network (network geometry, network analyst tools)
- GIS and modelling (data processing (environmental data, human pressures, land use,...) on different scales, modelling of eg reference conditions (prediction of fish assemblage under undisturbed conditions))
- Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)
-
autonomous working with ArcGIS or QGIS!!!!
--> basic GIS knowledge (Introductory course); e.g. structure of GIS data, data import, editing, coordinate systems, transformations
- Lehrziel
-
After successful completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Examine potential data sources for GIS analyses in aquatic ecology (e.g. National Water Management Plan)
- Identify GIS tools that are relevant for the analyses of riverine landscapes (e.g. Linear referencing tools)
- Apply GIS tools that are suitable for monitoring and planning of riverine ecosystems (e.g. buffer analysis)
- Structure and generate workflows in GIS to describe a specific analysis in detail
- Visualise the results of GIS analyses in an appropriate way (e.g., by tables, figures and maps)
- Presentation of results in written and oral form according to the guideline of good scientific practice
- Analyse a riverine landscape based on spatial data and GIS tools
