Leisa started with the CDR in September 2013 and is responsible for developing and implementing a social science work package in the project “Carbon storage and soil biodiversity in forest landscapes in Ethiopia: Knowledge base and participatory management”. She is working in collaboration with farmers and Ethiopian doctoral students to form farmer-scientist participatory research groups in the Amhara region of northern Ethiopia. Leisa obtained a Master of Environmental Management and Development from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. She has worked in a number of environmental policy and environmental law related areas, including a number of years spent working for the Australian Commonwealth Government, working on international climate change issues and sustainability policies. She has also worked as a freelancer for a major international NGO, most recently working on a series of reports assessing REDD+ country progress and working in the Mekong region on adaptation legal and governance issues as well as working with farmers on climate change adaptation projects in the north east of Thailand. Leisa has a diverse research background having worked for the University of Sydney in the area of health and ethics law, and for the Sustainable Europe Research Institute in Vienna, Austria where she undertook consultancies for a number of clients such as the United Nations Environment Programme; the United Nations Industrial Development Programme and a number of national development aid agencies.
