Universitätskurs »Sludge Treatment Wetlands«
Sustainable Wastewater Treatment
Basics for Practitioners in Application • theoretical and practical knowledge
The Program
Sludge Treatment Reed Bed Systems (STRB), also known as Sludge Treatment Wetlands, are nature-based systems and have been used for treatment of sludge in Europe, especially in Denmark, since 1988.
This course presents 36 years of experiences including an overview of the operation and maintenance, as well as environmental benefits of a typical STRB system, based on the experiences gained from the operation of many full-scale STRBs.
In particular, the following points will be discussed:
- Introduction to sludge treatment wetlands, a nature-based solution
- Operation, maintenance and applications
- Dewatering
- Emptying, recycling and greenhouse stockpile area
- Pilot systems
- Environmental impacts and benefits
- Sales experiences
Learning Outcomes:
- understand the processes in functioning of sludge treatment wetlands
- learn main design considerations of sludge treatment wetlands
- explore implementation and performance of full-scale sludge treatment wetlands
