Dr. Isita Sagar, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), Department of Biotechnology

Dr. Isita Sagar is an early-stage post-doctoral researcher She completed her doctoral thesis in Medical Microbiology from Hannover Medical School, Germany. During her doctorate, she was extensively studying the role of deubiquitinases in the macrophages during bacterial infection in murine models and animal as well as human derived primary immune cells. With her expertise in primary cell culture and understanding of immunomodulatory mechanisms, she aimed to transition to a more human-centric, animal-free, translational research and therefore joined the ICTCT, BOKU.

At ICTCT, Dr. Sagar is involved in exploring strategies for physiologic and xeno-free, 2D and 3D cultivation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs), production of MSC derived extracellular vesicles, developing in-house assays for determination of immunomodulatory functions of hMSCs, bringing forth novel ideas for enhancing therapeutic potential of hMSCs, co-supervision of PhD students, and assisting with teaching activities. Aligned with the institute's vision and need of the hour, Dr. Sagar aims to develop novel procedures that minimize the use of animal-derived components, and mimics physiological conditions, thereby increasing the clinical relevance of human research. She has a collaborative spirit, passion for interdisciplinary research, and eagerness to help others wherever possible.

Beyond her research, Isita enjoys cooking, traveling, and hiking.
