Research Topics
The Schäffer Research Group works on four interconnected research topics
- Bacterial Glycoinfrastructure
- Bacterial Cell Wall Architecture & Metabolism
- Polymicrobial oral Biofilms
- and Biosynthetic Glycobiology
.
Studied organisms are chosen on the basis of (i) serving as sources of novel glycans, glycoconjugates, and carbohydrate-active enzymes, (ii) offering glyco-aspects that play a role at the host interface to shape human health versus disease, (iii) or serve as model organisms to obtain a mechanistic insight into the connection between microbial glycobiology and physiology.
The Schäffer Group's research is performed at BOKU Vienna and within a well-established and steadily growing network of national and international collaborations.
