Ground and Soil Improvement modelling (GaSIm)
With the rise of digitalization in the construction industry, this area is also becoming increasingly important in specialist civil engineering. In addition to areas such as building information modeling, the main focus here is on mapping the subsoil and the numerical analysis of geotechnical structures. With the former, it is possible to provide a more comprehensive representation of the subsoil and subsequently reduce the subsoil risk and also create optimization possibilities. The second method also offers the potential to generate improvements and optimizations while still ensuring stable and robust structures. The interaction of both methods offers the opportunity to utilize overlapping areas and synergy effects and thus contribute to the conservation of resources. Compared to other engineering disciplines, there is a considerable amount of catching up to do in the area of ground improvement and the foundation of structures in interaction with the structural components, as far as such interacting processes are concerned. The concept of the GaSIm research project conceived by the VÖBU - as an interest group in special civil engineering - offers the opportunity to carry out such considerations from a scientific point of view and thus to create an essential building block for the development of the second generation of the Eurocode.
