Using 3D printed elements as formwork in order to shutter individual voids within structurally optimised concrete girders has worked well in previous projects. Currently we are developing a more resource-efficient formwork system to create individual void shapes that can be used within mass production and therefore is more robust compared to the 3D-printed elements. Nevertheless, the 3D printer is working overtime creating mock-ups and prototypes for the future system which will be ultimately made of steel or another reusable material.
