Professor Stephen V. Evans of the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology at the University of Victoria will present the lecture course Advances in Protein Crystallography in the summer term 2021 in a digital format (LV 773010). Professor Evans is an internationally renowned expert in the structure determination of glycobiology-relevant proteins, with his contributions focused on glycosyltransferases and carbohydrate-specific antibodies.

Professor Evans graduated in 1986 from the Department of Chemistry, University of British Columbia. After 4 years at the Department of Biochemistry he moved to the renowned Institute for Biological Sciences - National Research Council of Canada in Ottawa with a research focus on the structural biology of protein-carbohydrate interactions. In 2003 he returned to British Columbia at the University of Victoria followed by promotion to full professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology in 2007.

The course (LV 773010) will be held in digital format starting from 19 April and will focus on the fundamentals of protein structure determination by X-ray crystallography using real-world examples, culminating in a review of historical milestones and recent advances.
