Third Research Coordination Meeting (3rd RCM) on Development of Integrated Techniques for Induced Genetic Diversity and Improvement of Vegetatively Propagated and Horticultural Tree Crops
From July 10-14, 2023, the 3rd research coordination meeting on "Development of integrated techniques for induced genetic diversity and improvement of vegetatively propagated and horticultural woody crops" took place at the Vienna International Center (VIC). From the PBU, BOKU, Dr. Eduviges Borroto-Fernandez, BSc. Judith Joseph and a.Univ. Prof. Dr. Margit Laimer to present her work on cell and tissue cultures for resistance breeding in selected olive (Olea sp.) genotypes. BSc. Judith Joseph presented the results of her master's thesis. On the one hand, this involved the establishment of tissue cultures from various olive varieties from the entire Mediterranean region, into which resistance to Xylella fastidiosa, the fire bacterium, is to be introduced. On the other hand, experiments on mutation induction using gamma rays were carried out in the IAEA-FAO laboratories in Seibersdorf. On July 13, 2023, the group visited the PBU laboratory at BOKU to get to know the extensive research program of the PBU and to plan further collaborations.
