Milestones for a future worth living

On the occasion of this year's awarding of the Wilhelm Exner Medal, the Wilhelm Exner Medal Foundation invited to a poster session within the Exner Lectures. The theme for 2023 was "Milestones for a future worth living." Innovative technological, social, democratic or societal solutions to the challenges of the coming years were sought.

Numerous authors participated in the poster presentation, mainly from the fields of applied physics and chemistry.

Three PBU students were selected for the poster session to represent BOKU on May 22-23, 2023, and were referred to as "plant guys" during the presentation because they were the only ones to bring plant biotechnology to the event.

Simon Fink "Flow cytometry and karyotyping of in vitro-grown Cornus masgenotypes to evaluate absolute genome size and ploidy". This work was funded by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism and the Province of Lower Austria, Austria, as part of Project No. 101692 on Cornelian cherries.

B.Sc. Judith Joseph "In vitro culture to produce Xylella-resistant olive cultivars by mutation breeding". This work was carried out as part of the FAO/IAEA project CRP D24014.

Florian Fürnsinn "Virus detection in symptomatic fig plants in Austria". We are pleased to announce that the work on virus detection in an Austrian collection of figs was awarded 2nd prize in the baccalaureate category.

Finally, Wilhelm Exner (1840-1931) was professor of forest engineering at BOKU in Vienna.
