General Information
We offer Croatian courses for both beginners and advanced students. On BOKUonline you can find the available language courses, along with descriptions of each course and how they correspond to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages levels. You can use this as a reference when applying for your course in order to see which course will fit your current language level best.
You can check which courses are currently offered during the Winter Semester and the following Summer Semester.
Please note that the BOKU goes-east courses are only offered if more than 12 students register for the winter-semester course.
*** Please note that we can only offer a maximum of 23 courses per semester for all languages altogether. The selection of which courses can actually take place therefore always depends on demand and interest in the respective Courses. ***
Winter semester
Croatian I (A1, no prior knowledge required)
The content of the course (120901) is to acquire basic knowledge of the Croatian language with the aim of conveying an enjoyment of the language and culture. You will learn basic vocabulary on the following topics: getting to know people, describing people and things, living, leisure activities, hobbies, and family. You will also learn important phrases that will enable you to communicate in everyday situations.

Croatian III (A2)
Only offered if Croatian II was held in the previous summer semester!
During the language course (120903), advanced basic knowledge of Croatian in pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar (present tense, perfect tense, future tense, adjectives, pronouns) will be taught. Vocabulary is expanded with regard to everyday communication among friends, within the family, in cafés, in restaurants, and on topics such as food and drink, shopping and fashion, regional and cultural studies, and cities.

Summer semester
Croatian II (A1+)
Only offered if Croatian I was offered in the previous winter semester!
The language course (120902) is aimed at participants with basic prior knowledge. By deepening your knowledge of basic grammar, expanding your vocabulary, and practicing individual phrases and frequently used expressions, you will be able to communicate in Croatian in everyday situations and describe objects and your surroundings using simple words.

Živorad Žujović grew up trilingual (Serbian-Romanian-German) in Vienna and completed in addition to the teacher training (Bosnian / Croatian / Serbian, Russian, Polish and German as a foreign language) also his Master's degree in “German as a foreign and second language” and his Bachelor's degree in “Slavonic studies” at the University of Vienna. He spent several semesters abroad in Eastern Europe, namely at the Saint Petersburg State University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. Since 2012, he has been actively presenting several lectures in the foreign languages mentioned above, both in Austria and abroad (Germany, Croatia, Republic of Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, the Czech Republic and Ukraine). Furthermore, he has been working as an editor at «Österreich Spiegel» since 2014. In 2021, he decided to broaden his horizon and is now employed at a Viennese Secondary School and besides works as a lecturer for the courses “German as a Foreign Language “, “Croatian” and “Russian” at the University of National Ressources and Life Sciences in Vienna.
