General Information

We offer Polish courses for both beginners and advanced students. On BOKUonline you can find the available language courses, along with descriptions of each course and how they correspond to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages levels. You can use this as a reference when applying for your course in order to see which course will fit your current language level best.

You can check which courses are currently offered during the Winter Semester and the following Summer Semester.

 

Please note that the BOKU goes-east courses are only offered if more than 12 students register for the winter-semester course.

*** Please note that we can only offer a maximum of 23 courses per semester for all languages altogether. The selection of which courses can actually take place therefore always depends on demand and interest in the respective Courses. ***

Winter semester

Polish I (A1, no prior knowledge required)

This course (120911) introduces and familiarizes students with the most important everyday language topics in a communicative way: greetings, getting to know each other, work, describing one's own life situation, family. You will acquire a basic vocabulary and will be able to cope with elementary everyday situations and talk about yourself and others. You will become familiar with the basics of Polish grammar as well as the peculiarities of Polish phonetics.

Polish III (A2)

Only offered if Polish II took place in the previous summer semester!
In this language course (120913), the most important everyday language topics are explored in depth: travel and sightseeing, directions, seasons and weather, housing, birthdays/name days, making appointments. The four language skills are taught, with communication being the focus of the lessons. You will practice the expanded basic vocabulary and grammatical structures in an interactive and varied way in the context of language use and also become familiar with topics related to the country.

Summer semester

Polish II (A1+)

Only offered if Polish I was offered in the previous winter semester!
This course (120912) focuses on deepening and perfecting basic skills with a special emphasis on communication: You will acquire the necessary knowledge to express simple wishes, ask for information, talk about topics such as leisure activities, hobbies, and everyday routines, order in a restaurant, or go shopping.

Polish IV (A2+)

Only offered if Polish III took place in the previous winter semester!
The most important everyday language topics are covered in this course (120914) in terms of vocabulary: including living and working situations (everyday university life, everyday working life), leisure and sports activities, health, and travel. You will learn advanced grammatical structures in the context of language use. Authentic reading texts are used to introduce you to real-life reading conditions.

Mag.a Monika Anna Sarkady

  • Polish I (A1)

Monika Sarkady was born in Warsaw, but has lived in Vienna since 1987. She studied translation studies (translating and interpreting) at the University of Vienna, with the languages Polish, German, English and Portuguese and with Romance studies. In addition she completed the extra-occupational diploma course “Learning support, learning advice”, as well as undergoing training on systemic coaching and consultant training from SySt. Since 1994 she has not only been working in the field of translation and interpreting, and as a language teacher, but also works on scientific projects and art exhibitions. She teaches Polish at BOKU.
