General Information
We offer Russian courses for both beginners and advanced students. On BOKUonline you can find the available language courses, along with descriptions of each course and how they correspond to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages levels. You can use this as a reference when applying for your course in order to see which course will fit your current language level best.
You can check which courses are currently offered during the Winter Semester and the following Summer Semester.
Please note that the BOKU goes-east courses are only offered if more than 12 students register for the winter-semester course.
*** Please note that we can only offer a maximum of 23 courses per semester for all languages altogether. The selection of which courses can actually take place therefore always depends on demand and interest in the respective Courses. ***
Winter semester
Russian I (A1, no prior knowledge required)
This course (120931) is an introduction to the most important everyday language situations and topics such as greetings, introductions, family, work/study, living, finding your way around the city, public transportation, traveling, etc. Using texts, language games, group work, simulations, and dialogues, basic grammatical structures and vocabulary are developed, enabling course participants to actively use Russian and participate in simple conversations in Russian.

Russian III (A2)
Building on Russian II or equivalent basic knowledge, the course focuses on expanding and deepening vocabulary and grammar with the aim of enabling students to participate in practical conversations. Topics related to everyday life (daily routine, shopping/ordering, etc., health/illness, sports, leisure activities), studying and working, orientation (travel, dealing with authorities, events, etc.) and regional and cultural studies are also on the agenda, as are grammatical forms that are important for conversation and comprehension.

Summer semester
Russian II (A1+)
The course (120932) covers important everyday language situations/topics such as work and study, living, eating, shopping, finding your way around the city, etc. Basic grammatical structures and a foundation of vocabulary are reinforced so that course participants can take part in simple conversations in Russian. Communication and interaction as well as learning about cultural patterns are the main focus.

Russian IV (A2+)
In the first teaching unit, the thematic focus of the course (120934) is determined according to the interests of the students. The possible range of topics extends from tourism issues to the education system and job hunting, as well as city versus country life, to fashion, character, appearance, and health. Methodologically, great importance is attached to independent work. Among other things, participants are encouraged to independently search for Russian-language information in various sources and compile it. Common situations are practiced in dialogues and role-plays.

One year course
Russian for Science and Technology
The target group is primarily students who have advanced Russian language skills and would like to expand or deepen their knowledge in selected thematic areas. The aim is to impart skills that will enable students to better orient themselves in the academic and professional environment of the target language and culture. The thematic content will be decided in consultation with the students during the introductory sessions.

Lectors
MMag. Živorad Žujović

Živorad Žujović grew up trilingual (Serbian-Romanian-German) in Vienna and completed in addition to the teacher training (Bosnian / Croatian / Serbian, Russian, Polish and German as a foreign language) also his Master's degree in “German as a foreign and second language” and his Bachelor's degree in “Slavonic studies” at the University of Vienna. He spent several semesters abroad in Eastern Europe, namely at the Saint Petersburg State University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. Since 2012, he has been actively presenting several lectures in the foreign languages mentioned above, both in Austria and abroad (Germany, Croatia, Republic of Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, the Czech Republic and Ukraine). Furthermore, he has been working as an editor at «Österreich Spiegel» since 2014. In 2021, he decided to broaden his horizon and is now employed at a Viennese Secondary School and besides works as a lecturer for the courses “German as a Foreign Language “, “Croatian” and “Russian” at the University of National Ressources and Life Sciences in Vienna.
