Project description

Uni Zambeze is a young university, established in the central region of Mozambique, a densely populated region, with high rates of poverty and food and nutrition insecurity however very rich in natural resources. Small-size subsistence production are characteristic of the agriculture in the region. The region is at the center of the government’s efforts to halt environmental degradation and contribute to the sustainable development of rural areas. Uni Zambeze faces challenges to meet the needs and expectations of students and the local communities to further improve the situation in the region.

ISAM aims to contribute to the government and Uni Zambeze’s efforts through capacity building, following a transdisciplinary, bottom-up approach. Ultimately ISAM aims at developing a master curriculum in the field of sustainable farming (including elements of conservation and organic agriculture) that can serve as a prototype for further curricula development at Uni Zambeze.

 Specifically, the project objectives are:

1. To develop training tools for newly-graduated teachers, researchers, advisors and students at PhD level for modern teaching, learning, extension (smallholders and agro-livestock companies) and scientific methods.
2. To train the mentioned groups in modern teaching, learning, extension and scientific methods.
3. To train the mentioned groups in selected thematic fields of the curricula.
4. To develop a Master curricula in the field of conservation / organic agriculture that can serve as prototype for developing further curricula at the University.

 The project includes gender and disability mainstreaming as part of the module development. Additionally, the project aims at integrating Sustainable Development Goals.
