ISTER – ConnectIng hiSTorical Danube rEgions Roman routes
IRUB is a project partner in ISTER, a project of the Interreg Danube Transnational Programme.
The project
The ISTER project deals with the Roman cultural heritage in the Danube region. Beyond the heritage of isolated or remote Roman settlements, ISTER deals with the territorial dimension of Roman roads as a coherent transnational element crossing state borders and providing a relevant benchmark for exchange and joint development. Therefore, the main project objective focuses on the rediscovery and revitalisation of the ancient Roman road network in the Danube region as a key factor for the promotion of territorial development based on the sustainable use of cultural and natural heritage (especially Roman roads). ISTER promotes this Roman road and settlement network as a catalyst for tourism development and as an opportunity for territorial competitiveness and sustainable growth of the regions along the Danube.
Involvement of IRUB
IRUB is mainly involved in ISTER in the implementation of the interactive ISTER tool. This tool will be a collaborative digital platform that aims to support the valorisation of Roman eco-cultural routes, as well as effective communication and awareness raising of ISTER results related to the Roman road and settlement network. As an open-source knowledge portal, the tool will offer a user-friendly interface based on a map, providing valuable content about the rich heritage of the Roman routes and enabling collaborative contributions, for example by means of tracking and wayfinder QR codes, information and recommendations about food and accommodation in the region, overview of thematically relevant events and collaborative storytelling.
To this end, a user requirements survey will first be conducted to gather input from territorial partners for the development and management of the app content. On this basis and from the available data pool, a mock-up of the transnational interactive digital tool for Roman heritage will be created.
