SRI2MARKET - Paving the way for the adoption of the SRI into national regulation and market
The Project
The Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) is a common EU methodology that rates the smart readiness of buildings for their capability to perform key functionalities in regard to energy efficiency and demand flexibility. The SRI was introduced in the 2018 revision of the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) as a way to emphasize the role of smart building technologies – such as technologies for building automation, control and monitoring of equipment operation – in improving the energy efficiency of buildings and their capability to be active components of the future EU energy system.
As Member States look to apply the European Union's Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) to plan upgrades of their building stock, regional differences in regulation and markets hinder the roll out and stress inequalities. The SRI2MARKET project aims at supporting Member States on successfully planning for the rollout of the SRI in their national regulation and markets. In particular, SRI2MARKET will work on specific Member States and with general objectives that are differentiated.
Project Objectives:
- Support the targeted member states on introducing the SRI into their national regulation
- Propose public funding schemes to finance SRI upgrades in buildings
- Develop tools to guide SRI assessors and streamline building assessments
- Provide training to EPC assessors on the SRI and the methodology of its calculation
- Set up SRI pilots at national level so as to identify best practices for SRI assessments
- Provide recommendations to building owners and facility managers on cost-effective SRI upgrades
Role of the BOKU
The BOKU leads the development of a data bank that, integrated into the overall online tool, supports stakeholders in the respective sectors in the decision-making process. A number of exemplary use-cases shows the users how upgrades of certain technological domains translate into an improvement of the SRI-Score, energy efficiency and demand flexibility.
