Minimum academic performance

The minimum academic performance of 16 ECTS (§ 59a para. 1 UG) is required for every Bachelor's degree programme

  • to which you are admitted for the first time from winter semester 2022/23 or
  • to which you are re-admitted from this date

must be completed within four semesters. Otherwise admission to the degree programme will expire. Re-admission to the same degree programme at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna is only possible again after two academic years (= four semesters).

The minimum academic performance does not apply to

  • Students with a proven mental/physical impairment
  • Bachelor's students with admission before winter semester 2022/23
  • Master's and doctoral programmes

By when must the minimum academic performance be completed?

  • The relevant examination and other academic achievements must be completed no later than one month after the end of the fourth semester after the start/resumption of studies. I.e. by 31 October or 31 March, depending on whether the fourth semester is a summer or winter semester.

 Example:

  • The Bachelor's degree programme is started in the winter semester 2022/23. The minimum academic performance must be completed by the summer semester 2024 at the latest. The deadline is 31 October 2024.
  • In the event of a leave of absence, the counting of semesters is suspended. The counting of the four semesters continues after the end of the leave of absence.

Minimum academic performance and re-admission to studies

The minimum academic performance  must be completed for every Bachelor's degree programme that is started from winter semester 2022/23 or resumed after an interruption. In these cases, the minimum academic performance  must be completed once within four approved semesters. If you interrupt (again) during these four semesters, the counting of ECTS and semesters will continue after re-admission. However, once the minimum academic performance has been completed, it does not have to be completed again for this degree programme.

Example:
The degree programme was started in the winter semester 2022/23, studied for 2 semesters and completed 12 ECTS. The following semester is interrupted. The degree programme is resumed in summer semester 2024. There are still 2 semesters left to complete the missing 4 ECTS - i.e. by one month after the end of the fourth semester at the latest.

For studies that began before the winter semester 2022/23 and have not yet been interrupted, no minimum academic performance is required.

Support for completing the minimum acdemic performance

The University supports students if it is foreseeable that it will be very difficult or impossible to fulfil the minimum academic performance.

Offers and information

Failure to fulfil the minimum academic performance

If the minimum academic performance of 16 ECTS credits in a degree programme is not completed within four semesters, admission to this degree programme expires at the end of the last possible date of completion. This means on 31 October or 31 March, depending on whether the fourth semester is a summer or winter semester. The corresponding degree programme is suspendee for four semesters. Only after the expiry of the two-year suspension period can a new application for admission be made at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna.

Recognition and minimum academic performance

Whether a recognised achievement counts towards the minimum academic achievement depends on when the underlying achievement was completed. This must have been completed from the first start of the degree programme within the deadline for the minimum academic performance and the recognition must have been approved for the recognised achievement to count towards the minimum academic performance.

You should therefore apply for recognition in good time! Please note the two-month decision period and the duration of appeal procedures for negative decisions. If a course/examination has been taken more than once, the date of the last examination always counts.

Continuation of a degree programme after a curriculum change

If a degree programme is continued after a change to a new curriculum, the minimum academic performance does not have to be proven again. A change to the new curriculum is considered a continuation of the previous degree programme.
