Measuring towers

The measuring towers erected in 1986 consist of a scaffold tube construction and have a height of 32 m (Heuberg) and 35 m (Mehlbeerleiten).

The sites were chosen to characterize small-scale differences in ozone dynamics in the forest: Mehlbeerleiten valley site (396m m.a.s.l.) and Heuberg upper slope site (670m m.a.s.l.).

Originally, sensors for climatic parameters as well as intakes for an ozone measuring device were installed at different levels. Description and results in publications: Gasch/Krapfenbauer 1990 and 1991.

In 2018, the towers were retrofitted for CO2 measurements and eddy covariance measurements as well as with ascent safety devices.

Mains power supply (400V 16A) is available at the tower locations.
