Seminar "As the sturgeon swims"
Programm 20.03.2019
Seminar:
As the sturgeon swims - enhancing connectivity and ecological effectiveness of European policies from freshwater to marine exosystems
The dramatic decline of sturgeons in the last decades has become an issue of basin-wide importance in the Danube River getting attention of several countries and the European Commission. As their life cycle covers inland waters, estuaries as well as marine waters, they are the perfect symbol to underline the need of transdisciplinary and international cooperation to recuperate healthy ecosystems and highlight the overall decline of aquatic biodiversity. Closely linked to these changes in ecosystem health is the potential to provide ecosystem services and achieving the SDGs. This seminar will provide insights what Europe can learn from the showcase of the sturgeons in the Danube Basin and how the SDGs can support the implementation of cross-cutting issues to leave no-one behind.
