How to tip in Austria?
Tipping habits and amounts are pretty much the same in Vienna as elsewhere in Austria. You usually tip porters, taxi drivers, waiters and waitresses, hairdressers and anybody who fixes anything in your appartment.
There are no hard and fast rules, and it’s hard to offend. The only people you really must tip are taxi drivers and restaurant or bar staff. If you don’t tip them, it’s considered impolite and that you were very dissatisfied with the food, drink or journey. When tipping, normally add around 10% to the bill so it’s rounded up to a convenient number. So if the bill is €9, round up to €10. If it’s 25, round up to 27. It’s flexible.
In cafes, bars and restaurants, you pay the tip in the initial amount you hand over. Don’t pay the bill and then leave behind some change or give back a note. When you hand over your money state the amount you’re paying. So when the waiter says, “six euro eighty”, you hand him a 10 Euro note and say for example, “seven euro fifty”.

Gepflogenheiten - Trinkgeld in Wien
Die Höhe des Trinkgeldes ist in Wien mehr oder weniger dieselbe wie im Rest Österreichs. TaxifahrerInnen, KellnerInnen und FriseurInnen bekommen normalerweise Trinkgeld.
Es gibt eigentlich keine festen Regeln. Die einzigen Personen, die immer einen Aufschlag auf die Rechnung bekommen sind TaxifahrerInnen und KellnerInnen. Wenn ihr ihnen kein Trinkgeld gebt bedeutet das, dass ihr nicht mit dem Service zufrieden wart oder das Essen nicht geschmeckt hat. Normalerweise fügt man um die 10 Prozent zur Rechnung hinzu oder rundet auf. Wenn die Rechnung zum Beispiel 9 Euro beträgt, rundet auf 10 Euro auf. Wenn ihr 25 Euro zahlen müsst rundet auf 27 Euro auf. Es ist meist flexibel aber ein bisschen Trinkgeld ist immer ein Ausdruck von Zufriedenheit.
In Cafés und Bars zahlt man das Trinkgeld sofort während der Geldübergabe. Wenn ihr das Geld an die betreffende Person reicht sprecht deutlich die Höhe des Betrags aus, die ihr zu zahlen bereit seid. Wenn der/ die KelnerIn nun beispielsweise sagt: „sechs Euro achzig“ dann wird auf „sieben fünfzig“ aufgerundet.
