Lehrinhalt

This course offers an introduction to the concepts of environmental change, climate security, and their interrelated challenges -- with a focus on the broader context of social change. The course beings with a general overview of the foundational theories and concepts that explain the relationship between the climate crisis and various forms of conflict, and linkages to food, water, environmental, and human security. The course also offers in-depth case studies, presented through three public dialogues with international experts. These dialogues will allow participants to learn from real-world examples and critically reflect on how climate change contributes to vulnerabilities, civil unrest, and potential conflicts, and how these dynamics drive or hinder positive social change. These case studies will be analyzed in light of the theoretical perspectives covered and enable participants to draw critical lessons about the strategies and global policy approaches necessary to address these complex issues, particularly in the context of food systems, and enhance climate security.
