22. Mai, der internationale Tag der biologischen Vielfalt

Ausgerufen von der UNESCO findet seit 2001 jährlich der International Day for Biological Diversity am 22. Mai statt. Das diesjährige Motto, „Be part of the Plan“, soll als ein Appell dienen, Möglichkeiten zur Implementierung des Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Frameworks (auch bekannt als Biodiversity Plan), aufzuzeigen. In diesem globalen Biodiversitätsrahmen befinden sich 23 weltweit gültige Handlungsziele für den Biodiversitätsschutz, die bis 2030 erreicht werden sollen. Für die BOKU ausschlaggebend ist hierbei Target 21:

"Ensure that the best available data, information and knowledge, are accessible to decision makers, practitioners and the public to guide effective and equitable governance, integrated and participatory management of biodiversity, and to strengthen communication, awareness-raising, education, monitoring, research and knowledge management and, also in this context, traditional knowledge, innovations, practices and technologies of indigenous peoples and local communities should only be accessed with their free, prior and informed consent, in accordance with national legislation." (CBD/COP/ DEC/ 15/4)

Die Sichtbarmachung der Biodiversität am BOKU-Campus im Zuge der Biodiversity Challenge 2024 ist ein erster wichtiger Schritt dahin und beschäftigt sich zusätzlich mit SDG 14 (Leben unter Wasser) und SDG 15 (Leben an Land).
