Application for the BioMatInt Doctoral School 

If you decide to join the BioMatInt Doctoral School, you must first pass an acceptance process.

The following steps must be taken:

1. BioMatInt supervisor: You need a doctoral supervisor who is also a faculty member (Principal Investigator) of the BioMatInt Doctoral School. For more information, please click here: https://short.boku.ac.at/mdwwmy

2. Approval of doctoral project: Approval of doctoral project by faculty is necessary (e.g. via a faculty meeting or e-mail). Supervisor submits abstract. Only if the topic is approved by the faculty, the student will be invited to the hearing.

3. Hearing: You will be invited to a hearing (approx. 30 minutes). This will include a presentation your Master's thesis and your research project and an interview with the Selection Committee (selected members of the faculty). You will receive more detailed information from DocService.

Only after successful acceptance into the Doctoral School (acceptance at the Doctoral School level) will you receive the official admission form for the Doctoral School BioMatInt (official admission at university level): With this form, you can officially apply for admission at the BOKU Study Services.

Q: What are the prerequisites to participate in the BOKU doctoral school BioMatInt?

A: You need a doctoral supervisor who is also a faculty member (Principal Investigator) of BioMatInt, see https://short.boku.ac.at/mdwwmy. You also need a research project. It is typically conducted in the framework of a third-party funded or BOKU funded PhD position, but could also be without employment. Please check with your potential supervisor first, if he or she is willing to supervise you and if there is the possibility for a project / employment.

 

Q: Can I get a paid PhD position through the BOKU doctoral school BioMatInt?

A: No! The BOKU doctoral school BioMatInt only funds educational costs such as conferences, meetings, temporary research stays or similar. If you wish to have an employment for your PhD work, you need to obtain it by project funding via your supervisor (faculty member of BioMatInt).

 

Q: Which paperwork is needed?

A: At the beginning, none. Please follow the admission steps 1-3 listed above. After successful completion of the admission hearing to the doctoral school, you will receive a thesis agreement. For more details please contact the DocService. The thesis agreement has to be submitted to the BOKU Study Services with the rest of your official admission documents in order to be registered as doctoral student at BOKU. Q: Can I participate in the BOKU doctoral school BioMatInt with a supervisor not being a faculty member or being an associate faculty member?

A: No. Your main supervisor must be full faculty member (Principal investigator) in BioMatInt.

 

Q: What happens if I submit my documents to the BOKU Study Services before applying to the BOKU doctoral school BioMatInt?
