NEW Forest bathing according to the Japanese model Shinrin Yoku
Zsófi Schmitz, MSc., BOKU employee, nature mediator, forest bathing trainer, wildlife ecologist
Nature works. Nature heals. Nature reflects. We are part of nature and have a profound connection to it, even if we have forgotten about it in everyday life. Nature has an effect on our body, mind and soul. It allows us to relax and recharge our batteries. Nature gives us peace and balance. It stimulates our senses. It promotes our mindfulness. We can practise marvelling at the details in nature and open ourselves up to the images it reflects to us. Even during a short stay in nature, we come into contact with our own nature and gain access to answers to questions that we carry within us. The elements, plants and animals, colors and textures, the smells - all of this influences our experience.
When you go into the forest, you feel it immediately: the environment is good for us. We immerse ourselves in a soothing world and leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life outside. Our immune system is strengthened by the many substances in the forest atmosphere. We intensify this scientifically proven healing effect of the forest with targeted exercises - this is Shinrin Yoku, forest bathing. Forest bathing has its origins in Japan. It is understood to mean consciously spending time in the forest, relaxing, physically and mentally recuperating.
If the forest is not around the corner, we can seek out and use nature in our surroundings to strengthen our health and ourselves. Every tree, every plant serves us and invites us to come into the moment.
We practise this on four morning forest bathing sessions in Türkenschanzpark, 1180 Vienna. The meeting point is at 8 am at the Türkenbrunnen, entrance at the corner of Peter-Jordan- Straße/Dänenstraße. Duration 50 minutes.
