We offer Italian courses for both beginner and advanced students. Winter Semester
Italian I (A1, no previous knowledge necessary)
The learning objective of this beginner course (120025) is to develop basic vocabulary, listening comprehension skill, speaking skills and to learn how to construct basic grammatical structures. The topics that will be covered include introducing yourself, ordering in a restaurant and leisure activities and hobbies. Italian III (A2)
This course (120038) is appropriate for those who have already attended the beginners course (A1) and would like to improve their language skills further, or for those who already have some previous knowledge of Italian and would like to get back into learning this lovely language. The main aim for students is to train the 4 most important skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The main focus in seminars will, however, be on spoken communication and interaction. The most important grammatical knowledge, learnt at A1, such as the present tense of regular and irregular verbs, word order, direct object pronouns and the ‘passato prossimo’ will be consolidated and further developed in a playful and effective way. Summer Semester
Italian II (A1+)
In this course (120006) the past tense, locational and directional information, prepositions with articles and pronouns will be practiced in particular. The course will cover how to describe journeys and cities, daily routines, travels, excursions and typical Italian food, relevant vocabulary for each topic being taught. Italian IV (B1)
This course (120063) will consolidate and further develop the spoken and written skills learnt in Italian III, as well as covering grammatical structures, in particular verb tenses (imperfect, perfect and future) and the imperative. In addition to the different topics covered (body, medicine, mass media, future prospects and presenting your own CV), topics relevant for BOKU students will also be discussed. Mag.a Giovanna Schiavo
- Italian I-IV
Giovanna Schiavo was born and grew up in Rome. She received her diploma in translation in 1986, afterwards working as a translator for various publishers and businesses. In 1994 she completed her studies in German, English and Italian studies at the Sapienza Università di Roma, specialising in language teaching in schools and further education institutions. Along with two colleagues, she wrote the Italian textbooks Italiano per economisti (2003) and Affare fatto! (2016). She has worked as an Italian teacher at BOKU since 2006. In June 2018 she obtained her diploma as an educationalist at The University College of Teacher Education Lower Austria.
