Professorship in
Functional Genomics of Fungi
The position of a professor for “Functional Genomics of Fungi” is available as from Winter Semester 2009/10 at the Department of Applied Genetics and Cell Biology. The position is, as part of an agreement between the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna and the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), a half-time position for a period of five years, a prolongation of the contract depends on a peer-reviewed positive evaluation of performance in teaching and research. The educational duties of the successful candidate will encompass:
- Teaching in the area of gene regulation and functional genomics
- Supervision of bachelor, master and doctoral theses
- Participation in the revision and development of curricula.
According to the Strategic Development Plan of the University, the research field should focus on functional aspects of fungal genomics and should include
- The use of filamentous fungi as model organisms
- Research on molecular mechanisms of gene regulation, particularly on the role of epigenetics
- Basic and applied studies on the functional diversity of filamentous fungi
- Functional genomics of these species aimed at biotechnological exploitation of their genomic resources
- Establishment and further development of a Fungal Genomics Unit at the University Research Centre Tulln in tight co-operation with the Austrian Institute of Technology.
