APPEAR Scholars and Alumni at BOKU University
- APPEAR scholar Francis Musyoka - PhD research on sustainable land and water management
APPEAR scholar Francis Musyoka defended his PhD thesis at BOKU University in May 2025. His research involved applying advanced hydrological modelling to assess the impact of sustainable land management practices. His work provides valuable insights into how water quality and resilience in agro-ecosystems can be improved. This research has equipped him with skills in watershed modelling and evaluating sustainable land management practices – both of which are crucial for addressing contemporary environmental challenges in agriculture – especially in his home country, Kenya.

- FreshNet workshop at BOKU University: APPEAR scholars and alumni strengthen research networks for aquatic ecology
The FreshNet workshop at BOKU University brought together 40 representatives from over 15 institutions in Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Austria to foster partnerships for the sustainable management of Uganda’s freshwater ecosystems. APPEAR scholars and alumni played a leading role in guiding sessions, presenting research, and shaping new joint initiatives to enhance collaboration in aquatic ecology across East Africa. Through interactive panels and breakout groups, participants identified areas for cooperation and developed concrete action plans for future bi- and multilateral projects.
