Alerta Amazonia traveling exhibition at BOKU

1 October – 8 November in Aula Schwackhöferhaus

“Alerta Amazonia – When fabric speaks” presents hand-embroidered textiles from the Amazon region that tell stories of resistance and climate justice. The exhibition brings Arpilleras from the Brazilian Amazon to Austria, showing how this unique textile art, which originated in Chile, has found a new, powerful meaning in the Amazon.

Female artists document their lived experiences and activism in the context of environmental destruction and the unfolding climate crisis affecting their everyday lives. The kick-off event was on 1 October with Vice rector Doris Damyanovic (BOKU), Elfriede More (BMLUK), Erwin Eder (HORIZONT3000), and climate activist Edson Krenak.
