If the weather is good, a trip to Vienna’s vineyards is worthwhile, which are located in the 19th district, just like parts of the BOKU campus. Still, getting there requires some time and perhaps some exercise. One option is to take public transportation to the hill “Kahlenberg” and walk down a bit, or to travel to “Grinzing” and take a bit longer walk. Often the wine venues – some of them called “Buschenschank” – only accept cash payments. An example with a good view over Vienna is Weingut Wailand (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Weingut+Wailand/@48.2709401,16.340183,14.17z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x476d08b2336b6ec1:0x41f3cdb2a7218444!8m2!3d48.2722719!4d16.3405001 ). However, there are more venues in the area. These places, however, only offer self-produced food (i.e. cold cuts, cheese, cake, etc.), so choices are limited and consists of cold dishes. Vegans and heavy eaters beware.
By bike, one experiences the city in a completely different way and perceives more of it. A trip to “Donauinsel” (Danube Island) or the Green Prater is worth the effort. One option is to use the bike sharing service offered by Wiener Linien. For more information, check out the section Practical Information – Public transport.
For a get-together with refreshments and a view over the city, MQ Libelle is a great place to be. Outdoors on the roof of the Leopold Museum. Also worthwhile for a free view. For more information please follow: https://www.mqw.at/en/your-visit/mq-libelle
