“Who Gets to Feel Safe? Who Gets to Speak Up? Understanding and Addressing the Intersections of Sexism and Racism in Higher Education”
On November 27, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., we cordially invite you to an exciting online lecture.
Under the title "Who Gets to Feel Safe? Who Gets to Speak Up? Understanding and Addressing the Intersections of Sexism and Racism in Higher Education," Bontu Guschke will talk about the intertwining of sexism and racism in the context of higher education—and how these can be made visible and addressed. The lecture will focus on examining sexism and sexual harassment in the context of higher education from an intersectional perspective. This includes:
- The relevance of an intersectional perspective: Why are intersectional approaches important for understanding sexism in the higher education context?
- The interplay of racism and sexism in the higher education context: Which forms of discrimination are currently in the spotlight and which are still overlooked?
- The effects of harassment and discrimination: How are harassment and discrimination reproduced in the higher education context?
- Perspectives for action from an organizational perspective: How can discrimination and harassment be combated intersectionally at various levels (equality work, employees, students)?
The moderation and subsequent Q&A session will be led by African studies scholar, author, and trainer Josephine Apraku. Matthäa Ritter-Wurnig will ensure a safe environment as the contact and awareness person throughout the event.
The lecture will be held in English. For barrier-free participation, written interpretation into German will be provided. Please find the link to register via Termino attached.
