Fachexkursion 2026 | Das IBLB in Dresden
As mentioned in the last news story, the team of the Institute of Engineering Biology and Landscaping (IBLB) visited the BuGG World Congress on Green Buildings 2026 in Berlin. Afterwards, the team took advantage of the geographical proximity and good train connections to Dresden to be inspired by exciting implementation projects on site.
Arriving in Dresden, the team found in Prof. Dr.-Ing. Henning Günther the perfect tour guide. Since Dresden is known as a city of art and culture and impresses with numerous important buildings, a guided tour of the city center with focus on urban development as well as urban green-blue infrastructure and climate change adaptation took place. Among other things, tree planting in street spaces or greening of railway tracks became the focus. Another item on the agenda was the direct exchange with the Dresden city administration – whereby the planned and integrative redesign of Louisenstraße in the Neustadt was primarily discussed. The focus was primarily on the technical and planning challenges regarding the use of rainwater on private roofs, and the involvement of the population in the greening measure.
Since Prof. Dr.-Ing. Henning Günther holds a professorship at the Dresden University of Applied Sciences (HTW), there was the opportunity to visit this institution. Here, the topics of living islands - testing and evaluation of near-natural floating vegetation structures as well as green noise protection concepts became the focus of the subject, including a visit to a geotechnical laboratory of the university.
The end of the multi-day excursion was a detour to Saxon Switzerland. The aim of this short excursion was to further strengthen the cohesion, communication and trust within the team, but at the same time there was also enough time for the discourse on the topic of forest development after fires. At this point, a big thank you to all IBLB team members who were able to take time for the field trip.
The IBLB team would like to take this opportunity to thank Prof. Dr.-Ing. Henning Günther for his time, the professional discussions and his expertise!
