In her PhD project, Sophie investigates how gender inequalities in care work, labor, and consumption shape societies’ resilience in the face of climate change. The project bridges feminist economics and social-ecological transformation research, highlighting that care systems are critical yet often overlooked foundations of gender equal, sustainable societies. Her research explores how climate-related disasters disrupt care systems and how public investments in social infrastructure can strengthen both gender equality and ecological sustainability. Sophie reframes care work as a vital part of climate adaptation and social resilience, and aims to better understand how social and economic policies can enable more equitable and sustainable provisioning systems, acknowledging that achieving climate goals requires not only technological innovation, but also a fair redistribution of time, resources, and care.
