articulate the key requirements for student activation and motivation in courses, and explain why incorporating a variety of methods is essential for delivering high-quality instruction.
design course structures and activities that effectively enhance student engagement and foster active participation.
identify and implement appropriate, practical methods for activating students in their own teaching contexts with confidence and success.

Content:

Learning is an active process, which is why actively engaging students in our courses is crucial. But how can this be achieved in regular course settings without requiring extensive preparation?
In this hands-on, interactive course, you will learn about the key requirements for student activation, the role of motivation in learning, and effective strategies to support your students. We will explore practical, easy-to-implement, and proven methods that foster increased interaction at various stages of instruction. These include activities for the beginning of the term, warm-ups, wrap-ups, and short, in-between tasks designed to maintain students' focus and attention.
By actively engaging students, we contribute to creating a supportive and sustainable learning environment while delivering high-quality instruction.
In addition to input and practical application of various methods, the course offers opportunities for individual professional support and collegial exchange.

Mag.a Mag.a Dr.in Elisabeth Weber

Mag. Mag. Dr. Elisabeth Weber is an academically certified didactics expert and professional instructor. She holds a PhD in English Language, Literature and Lingustics and is a graduate of several MA programs in didactics and English. She has intensively worked as instructor at secondary and tertiary level for twenty years. At BOKU she presently teaches English language courses. Additionally, she works as teacher trainer at various institutions of higher education and offers didactic coaching to instructors and policy makers. Elisabeth was honored with the first prize of BOKU's Teaching Award by an international jury in 2014 and got nominated for the 2021 Austrian National Award for Higher Education.
