Transformations towards sustainability? Novel perspectives from Social Ecology.

Online lecture series.

The world is facing critical challenges, from climate change to the overuse of natural resources and the loss of natural habitats. Societies will need to undergo important transformations to become more sustainable. Leading these transformations requires a better understanding of nature-society interactions, as well as innovative ideas to apply scientific knowledge. This lecture series, offered by young scholars working at the Institute for Social Ecology, will reveal cutting edge results from the field of social ecology, and provide reflections and solutions on how this knowledge can contribute to a more sustainable society.

Dechema research scholarship to investigate cell-free therapies

Cell based products from patient-specific cells can stimulate regenerative processes within the body without eliciting the risk of cellular malignancies. Dr. Sebastian Kreß at the Institute for Cell and Tissue Culture Technologies (ICTC) investigates the production and functionality of cellular vesicles for their application in cell-free therapy approaches.

Understanding the formation of nitrous oxide emissions

An interdisciplinary team of scientists from the University of Innsbruck, BOKU and University of Vienna has succeeded in studying emissions of the greenhouse gas N2O under the influence of environmental impacts in an unprecedented level of detail. The study, which has now been published in Science Advances, is thus also a starting point for anticipating future trends in the greenhouse gas emission dynamics of ecosystems under global climate change.

"Soft" Cellulose Nanospheres for Next-Generation Immunosensors

BOKU researchers have developed functional, "soft" cellulose-based nanoparticles in cooperation with research groups from Germany, Finland and Canada. These particles have an extraordinarily high protein sorption capability and could increase the sensitivity of antigen tests in the future.
