Samariter Laden Purkersdorf donates valuable chance find to BOKU

Earth scientists made a special discovery with rarity value in the "SamLa - der Samariterladen" in Purkersdorf, a shop of the Samariterbund. Volumes of the so-called "Kronprinzenwerk" (Crown Prince's Work) were offered for sale here among crockery, coffee machines and pieces of furniture for a good cause. The SamLa now handed over the edition of the "Kronprinzenwerk" to the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, which thus complements the historical collection of Crown Prince Rudolf.

Founder Award PHÖNIX for BOKU Spin-Off "Agrobiogel

The BOKU spin-off "Agrobiogel" was awarded this year's Phoenix Start-up Prize in the "Spin-off" category on Wednesday evening. The agrochemical gel enables (crop) plants to survive dry periods over longer periods of time by slowly releasing water to the plants.

Paul Jusner from the Institute of Chemistry of Renewable Resources received the graduate student award 2022 of the American Chemical Society CELL Division for his dissertation.

Extreme weather events like the cold snap that hit Texas in February 2021 are very rare. But when they do occur, they cause enormous financial and humanitarian damage. A research team from BOKU set out to find the reasons for the lack of preventive measures and has now published its findings in the renowned journal Nature Energy.

Changing ozone distribution influences climate change more strongly than previously assumed

Ozone is one of the strongest greenhouse gases after carbon dioxide and methane. Since 1955, its concentration in the atmosphere has changed significantly. A new study with participation of BOKU Vienna now shows that this is also responsible for about one third of the changed heat absorption capacity in the Southern Ocean and thus weakens one of the most important cooling mechanisms of the Earth much more than previously thought.

IPCC: World-wide action even more urgent than previously assessed

Report of Working Group III to the 6th Assessment Report released

On April 4, 2022, the IPCC has released the report of Working Group III, completing the main body of the 6th Assessment Report. The IPCC has three working groups: Working Group I, dealing with the physical science basis of climate change; Working Group II, dealing with impacts, adaptation and vulnerability; and Working Group III, dealing with the mitigation of climate change.
